“Hard work can lead to success and recognition, no matter what background you are from.”

That was the message from Queen’s University Belfast student Hannah Lily Lyttle, who received the prestigious JMK Solicitors Prize and described the news as a “big confidence boost” going into her final year of studies.

The Law student at Queen’s received the prize – worth £3,000 – after achieving the highest mark in her Tort Law module as well as meeting the widening access criteria set by the Russell Group University.

The widening access programme aims to support students who have the ability to succeed in higher education, irrespective of socio-economic background; disability; ethnicity; political opinion; gender; marital status; sexual orientation; or age.

JMK Solicitors, Northern Ireland’s leading Personal Injury and Road Traffic accident law firm, launched the student prize in 2019 in conjunction with Queen’s University, Belfast and it will run for three years

Delighted student Hannah said she was thrilled at winning the prize, adding, “It was a tough year due to COVID-19. I have a keen interest in Tort Law, so being recognised by Northern Ireland’s number one Personal Injury and Road Traffic accident law firm is a real honour.

“Personally, winning the JMK Solicitors prize has been a big confidence boost as I enter my final year of Law at Queen’s University Belfast.

“I feel proud to be able to set an example for other students who come from a Widening Participation background.”

Congratulating Hannah on winning the prize, Olivia Meehan, Legal Services Director at JMK, said, “We are very pleased for Hannah, who I was delighted to meet and who has done exceptionally well.  We  wish her every success in her degree and future career.”

Speaking about the importance of the prize, Olivia continued, “We are keen to recognise and reward the efforts of the next generation of lawyers. We think it is crucial to support students who go the extra mile in the study of tort law, which relates to what we do at JMK in seeking compensation for those who suffer personal injury, loss or damage caused by a civil wrong.”

“We are also very pleased to support Queen’s, a leading UK Law School with a long-established reputation for producing highly educated and skilled law graduates to include several of our team at JMK.”

JMK Solicitors was established in 2003 and has grown to become Northern Ireland’s No.1 Personal Injury Firm.

The firm has handled more injury claims than any other NI Solicitor for each of the last five years.

They are renowned for being innovative in the legal sector and investing heavily in staff development, IT and marketing.
