Background
Prior to joining JMK Solicitors in November 2022, Laura graduated from Queens University, Belfast and College of Law, Chester. Laura was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales in 2009 and subsequently admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland in 2010.
She has over a decade of experience dealing with all types of personal injury claims including accidents at work, road traffic accidents and public liability claims.
Approach
Laura enjoys building up a rapport with clients and works in partnership with her clients to achieve the best result. Laura understands that the legal process can be daunting for clients and is sensitive to their needs by helping to guide them through the process and by providing clear advice and reassurance at all times.
Experience
- Laura acted for a minor client who was hit by a runaway scrambler on a public footpath whilst playing with friends. Laura lodged a claim with the Motor Insurers’ Bureau as the owner of the scrambler had no insurance. The MIB admitted negligence on behalf of the uninsured owner. The assessment of damages was the only issue between the parties. The case was heard in the High Court of Justice in Northern Ireland and the minor client was awarded significant damages for the injuries sustained.
- Laura acted for a client who was seriously injured following an accident at work. Liability was denied by the employer’s insurance company and solicitors. Laura instructed an engineer at the outset to inspect the locus as she was instructed by her client that the employer had plans to make changes to the locus. The engineering evidence proved the employer was in breach of several pieces of legislation governing the workplace. Proceedings were issued and liability was admitted prior hearing. Laura and her team of barristers secured a six figure settlement for the client.
- Laura acted for a pedestrian who was knocked down whilst crossing the road. Liability was initially disputed however Laura obtained the police report which led to an admission of liability by the driver’s insurance company. The client sustained permanent scarring. Laura and the barrister instructed obtained medical evidence from specialist plastic surgeons to ensure the appropriate settlement for the client.
Outside of work
Laura enjoys spending time with her young family. She likes to keep fit by attending a weekly Zumba class and enjoys getting outside for long walks with the kids in local forest parks!
